Special event in 5 Central Jails, 20 District Jails and 8 Sub-Jails of the state: Prisoners got the opportunity to bathe in Ganga water for spiritual and mental purification
Raipur, 25 February 2025 – Under a unique initiative of the Chhattisgarh government, prisoners lodged in various jails of the state were given the opportunity to bathe in Ganga water. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said on this pious work that it is our wish that the grace of Mother Ganga remains on everyone. This initiative will provide the prisoners an opportunity for mental peace and introspection, so that they can move towards positive change. The state government is committed to the spiritual and moral upliftment of the prisoners along with prison reform and such efforts will continue in the future as well. A big step towards spiritual awareness and social inclusion Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, while underlining the importance of this initiative, said that sanskar and culture are an integral part of any person’s life, and the prisoners lodged in jails are also not untouched by it. The state government organized this special event so that every section of the society is not deprived of the holy benefits of the Maha Kumbh being organized after 144 years. This will inculcate self-purification, positive thinking and moral awareness in the prisoners. He said that special arrangements were made for Ganga Jal Snan and collective prayers in 5 Central Jails, 20 District Jails and 8 Sub Jails, due to which the prisoners experienced spiritual and mental purification.
Enthusiasm was seen among the prisoners across the state, they took part in mass prayers. During this special event, suitable arrangements for the supply of Ganga water and bathing and mass prayers have been made for the prisoners in jails across the state. Jail superintendents said that the prisoners participated enthusiastically in this event and described it as a positive experience. Many prisoners said that they experienced self-purification and mental peace from this event. Government’s new initiative towards reform and rehabilitation of prisoners Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said that the state government is committed to the reform and social rehabilitation of prisoners. Describing this initiative as an important step in this direction, he said that jail should not only be a place of punishment, but also a center of reform and rehabilitation. This effort to bring prisoners into the mainstream of society by giving them moral and spiritual guidance will continue in future as well. Commendable effort of Chhattisgarh government towards bringing positive change This Ganga water bath and spiritual program organized by the state government in the jails is a historic and commendable initiative towards bringing positive change in the lives of prisoners. This initiative will not only provide self-purification and mental peace to the prisoners, but will also prove to be an effective step towards their rehabilitation.
