Raipur, 29 November 2024: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai reviewed in detail the road safety scenario of the state, measures to control road accidents in the meeting of Chhattisgarh State Road Safety Council held at his residential office today. He said in the meeting that to control road accidents, use of helmets for two-wheeler drivers and seat belts for four-wheeler drivers and strict adherence to road safety and traffic rules should be ensured while driving. For this, public awareness campaign should be run effectively. To prevent road accidents, Chief Minister Sai directed to expedite the improvement work of black spots on the roads, organize regular meetings of the District Road Safety Committee, complete the work of trauma stabilization units under construction for the treatment of persons injured in road accidents as soon as possible. In the meeting, the Chief Minister launched the “Bus Sangwari App” prepared by the Transport Department and released the poster published by the Transport Department on road safety.
It was informed in the meeting that the School Education Department has included chapters related to road traffic rules in the curriculum in the textbooks of the State Council of Educational Research from class I to class X in the state schools. It was told in the meeting that electronic surveillance of traffic system is being done in Raipur, Bilaspur and Nava Raipur. This system is partially operational in Bhilai and Durg. From September 2023 to October 2024, improvement works of 101 black spots and 748 junctions have been completed. It was informed in the meeting that the possibility of death in road accidents can be reduced by 40 percent by using helmet and seat belt.
Officials said that more than 6 lakh 70 thousand challan actions have been taken by the Transport Department and more than 4 lakh 87 thousand by the Police Department for violation of traffic rules. From 01 January 2023 to 31 October 2024, the licenses of 7826 drivers have been suspended. Funds have been approved for the construction of Trauma Stabilization Unit in 8 accident prone areas Rajnandgaon, Dharsiwa Abhanpur, Pali, Simga, Sukma, Bemetara and Pathalgaon. Vehicle location tracking devices have been installed in 14 thousand 261 vehicles, speed governors in more than 72 thousand vehicles and panic buttons in 2200 buses. In the meeting, the works like identification of black spots, improvement action, traffic indicators in roads, removal of hoardings, footpaths, parking, removal of encroachment from service lanes etc. were reviewed.

Sangeeta, ADG Traffic Mr. Pradeep Gupta, Additional Transport Commissioner Mr. D. Ravishankar were present in the meeting. Commissioners and Inspector General of Police of all divisions attended the meeting virtually. Chairman of Inter-Departmental Lead Agency and AIG Traffic Mr. Sanjay Sharma gave a presentation in the meeting.
