Kanker District Got The National Award Of Best Inland District For Fisheries

Raipur 21 November 2024: Kanker district of Chhattisgarh has received the Best Inland District Award at the national level in the field of fisheries. Today on 21st November, on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Panchayati Raj  Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, Minister of State Professor S.P. Singh Baghel and  George Kurien honored  Narayan Singh Nag, Director of Fisheries Department of Chhattisgarh, Assistant Director Fisheries Kanker  S.S. Kanwar by presenting a trophy and a citation at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The state of Chhattisgarh has earlier received the award of the Best Inland State of the country in the field of fisheries.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed happiness over Kanker getting the Best Inland District Award of the country. He congratulated and wished all the fish farmers and officials of the Fisheries Department of the state including Kanker for this proud achievement. The Chief Minister has said that despite being a landlocked state, Chhattisgarh is leading in the country in the field of fisheries. Chhattisgarh is a self-reliant state in the country in fish seed production. This is the result of the hard work of the fish farmers of the state.

It is worth noting that Chhattisgarh has 2.032 lakh hectares of water area for fish farming, out of which 96 percent is being used for fish farming in some form or the other. The state is producing 546 crore fish seeds and 7.30 lakh tonnes of fish every year. Fish seeds are also exported from here to neighboring states. The state is ranked 6th in the country in fish seed production and 8th in the country in fish production. The fishermen of Chhattisgarh state are being provided loan facility from the bank through Kisan Credit Card. As per eligibility, short term loans are also being given to fish farmers at interest rate ranging from one percent to three percent.
