Korba, 21 January 2025: The District and Sessions Court (POCSO) has sentenced five accused to death and one to life imprisonment in the case of gang rape and murder in Korba district of Chhattisgarh. This incident took place four years ago in Korai forest, which shocked everyone. The brutes first brutally killed the father of the Pahari Korwa family in front of their daughters. Then the four-year-old girl was also brutally killed and the minor was gang-raped and left to die in the forest. Today the victim’s family has got justice in this heart-wrenching case. What is the whole matter? On January 29, 2021, three people were murdered in the Korai forest of Garh-Upoda area of Lemru police station area. The deceased were identified as Dharmu alias Jhakdi Ram (45 years), his daughter Teejamati (16 years), and granddaughter Satmati (4 years). All three were missing since Friday, and their family members were searching for them. Dharmu’s body was found in the forest on January 30. During the search, the police recovered Satmati’s body, while Teejamati was found in critical condition, but she died while being taken to the hospital.
Police investigation revealed that this family used to graze cattle at Santram Yadav’s place. On January 29, Santram said that there was no work that day, and he asked Dharmu and his family to go home. Dharmu left for the village on foot with his wife and children. It is alleged that Santram had said that he would drop Dharmu, Teejamati, and Satmati home on his bike. But after some time Dharmu and his daughters disappeared. When the family members asked Santram, he told that he had dropped them near the village. When there was no news of them for four days, the family lodged a complaint with the police. The police detained Santram and interrogated him. He confessed to the presence of the body in the forest. Following his information, the police recovered the body of 4-year-old Satmati, while Teejamati was in critical condition. She also died while being taken to the hospital. Court’s verdict After a four-year long trial, the District and Sessions Court (POCSO) gave its verdict in the case on Monday. The court awarded death penalty to the convicts – Santram, Anil, Anand, Pardeshi, and Jabbar of Satrenga village. Another convict, Umashankar Yadav, was awarded life imprisonment.
